Selling through the Society circuit service entails three simple steps:
Obtain circuit book pages.
Mount, annotate and price your material.
Mail your material to the circuit department administrator.
1. Obtain Circuit Book Pages
The method to obtain circuit book pages:
The method is to simply download circuit pages by clicking on this link: MEPSI Circuit Book Pages. This .PDF file, when printed on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet in landscape format, contains ten numbered pages, with sixty numbered spaces for mounting stamps. Tip: Please do NOT use white (or off-white) copy paper. Use a lighter color copy paper to print your ten numbered pages. Your stamps' perforations and margins will appear much clearer.
Cutting the pages down the center is optional. Unlike traditional circuit books, the pages should not be bound into a "book" form. Please keep the pages loose leaf to ease scanning by the administrator.
2. Mount, Annotate and Price your Material
It is important that the seller understands that the circuit department administrator will not annotate, describe, price or arrange your material. Your material will be scanned and presented as received. Some guidelines and tips follow below, but in summary, just use common sense. A prospective buyer should be able to see your material, be able to request it from the circuit administrator by identifying a space number (or a series of space numbers), and they should be able to clearly read the catalog number, your price, and any associated notes.
Mounting
Try to arrange the stamps in catalog order.
Please mount your stamps securely, using good hinging practices or using clear mounts or thin sleeves. Please do not place stamps in glassine envelopes, as they will scan poorly.
Not every space needs to be occupied by a stamp. Spaces can be left blank, or, if adjoining other stamps, they can be used for additional annotation.
Offering covers: covers and fronts can be sold via the service. These items should be mounted in thin, transparent sleeves, and only one cover should be mounted per page. There are no special pages for covers.
Offering sets: you may offer several stamps to be sold only as a complete set, but please be sure they are mounted, displayed and annotated so that the buyer will understand exactly which stamps are included in the set.
Sets can be included as overlapping stamps in a single clear sleeve covering one or more boxes, or they can be individually mounted across multiple boxes.
It is best if the set does not extend past one page.
For each set, indicate the number of stamps being offered (e.g., "Set of __"), ensure the catalog numbers for the stamps are listed individually or as a range, and if the stamp set spans multiple boxes, draw a connecting line across the page and under the boxes containing the stamps to make it clear the stamps are being sold as a set.
Annotating
The minimum annotation per stamp is a catalog number (please specify the catalog used if not Scott) and your price (the "net" price). The stamp sheets also contain a space for the catalog price. Entering a catalog price is not mandatory, but it is useful.
Please write legibly. Your pages will appear as submitted. If buyers cannot read your handwriting they may misinterpret your notes, catalog numbers, or prices.
If a stamp has an imperfection of any kind (e.g., clipped perforations, creases, gum missing from an un-used stamp, tears, things, etc.) it must be noted in the space occupied by the listing.
Unused stamps (especially modern) should be annotated as "NH" if the stamp has not been hinged and your price reflects that quality. Buyers will assume that stamps have been hinged.
Feel free to add any other interesting or vital information about a stamp or cover.
Pricing
Price your material realistically. You cannot expect to sell anything if your assigned prices are above or near the top of current market prices for similar material. If you do not want to sell your material, do not take the trouble to submit it.
